Who was Igor Loro?

The image that is still printed in our minds is that of Igor who is jumping up and down on the Palaonda's steps. He did it for hours, before and after Bolzano's trainings. His climb to the Italian A-Ieague started from these steps. Conscious of his own limits but still strong in will.

He forced himself more than his companions, getting onIy few chances of worth. But he never complained, just a hit or an attack against the adversary were enough to make him happy. If he wasn't called up to play, he never tried to find excuses: no guilties, no Italian hockey’s crisis or bad foreigners, just some more training and he was ready again to take another chance. He feared he would not make the team in Bolzano so he tried to find his fortune some where else. Working hard he got a contract with “Courmaosta”, so it never gave up the dream of a great performance in Red and White. His flight had just started when the accident took place, but nothing could ever cancel his memory.

This editorial written in November 1997 by Maurizio di Giangiacomo for the Alto Adige newspaper, reflects exactly the memory we still have of Igor today: Many players passed through the locker - rooms of the old Stadium in Via Roma or through the Palaonda without leaving any memory: But Igor is still here with us, still warming up for hours up and down. Who has been in contact with him will never forget his smile and kindness. When he was looking for some tape, nobody refused him a favour. His behaviour infused a positive attitude in everybody along the Palaonda aisles.

So it is up to us to remind them of the qualities that made him the “Great Igor”.
